He fell in love with starlight.
She never left his mind.
Even when the kiss of death,
Took her, gentle and kind.

He was of a different sort,
Made of Grace and Time.
Ancient and forever young,
Versed in Tale and Rhyme.

She was of the Mortal Men,
Not bound by Earth and Vine.
But even with an ending life,
Her eyes shone bright, divine.

Their love was but a moment,
A flash of silver light.
He watched her age but never fade,
As she ever moved towards night.

So long he sat in open air,
Mourning his love that had past.
He'd lost his mortal evening star,
But in his sky she'd ever last.

I've been reading The Silmalrillion :D

This is just an idea I got, an immortal being (Elf) falls in love with a mortal woman.

When mortality and immortality combine, it can only lead to heartbreak and grief. Not to mention a whole bunch of questions; among them, would he be keen to move on with a new love, or would he remain loyal to them for literally forever? Though I guess in some way, the elf must’ve known that was the fate to accept when he decided to commit their devotion.

Especially when they measure years in seemingly seconds, by comparison. :time:

Quite frankly this is a beautiful piece, not only in how it emotionally describes the characters but also in how it expresses love. It goes above and beyond simple romance and really turns it into something magical. It was unfortunate that it was so fleeting, but the line “Their love was but a moment” was a very apt and lovely way to contrast the love of both mortal and immortal.

The rhythm and flow of this piece in general was real solid throughout, as well. Overall, I don’t think I can find any fault with this excellent piece, so I can only ask that you keep writing stuff like this. I wonder, if he was some kind of playboy, how many "stars" could he create in that night sky of his? :eyes:

Well done, bottom line.
